Tis the Season for Bagged Leaf Collection

Image

Bagged leaf collection season starts Monday, October 28, 2013 and continues through Monday, January 6, 2014.  The Bureau of Solid Waste will collect bagged leaves every Monday throughout the season.

Solid Waste crews will collect 20 bags of leaves from each address every Monday.  Residents must call 311 before Sunday at 10 p.m. for the following Monday collection to schedule a pickup. Residents may make multiple appointments for up to two months prior to the pick up date.

The Bureau of Solid Waste will also continue to collect bagged leaves on the regularly scheduled trash collection day.  Solid Waste crews will collect 5 bags of leaves from each address every week.  Residents need to put leaves in clear or labeled bags and place them at their regular mixed refuse collection location and not in the public right-of-way. With Monday collections and regular mixed refuse collections, the Bureau of Solid Waste will collect, in total, 25 bags of leaves per week per resident.

Residents can also drop off bagged leaves at five Bureau of Solid Waste locations. More info and locations can be found at:

ALSO – KEEP THOSE STORM DRAINS CLEAN

Leaves, rain and storm drains are a bad mix. Baltimore City has over 52,000 such storm drain inlets and keeping them clear of leaves, trash and other debris is crucial in preventing localized flooding. Sweep along your sidewalks, curbs, gutters and alleys. Report blocked storm drains that you cannot clear to 311 so that DPW crews can address them. The Bureau of Solid Waste collects bagged leaves every Monday throughout the leaf season with the exception of Holidays. Residents must call 311 before Sunday at 10 p.m. for the following Monday collection to schedule a pickup.

Fall In Baltimore Neighborhood Clean Sweep

Please join us for the Kick-off of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s Fall In Baltimore Neighborhood Clean Sweep With HARBEL at:

Harford Rd. & Parkside Dr. October 26, 2013 9 A.M.

Then return to your community for your neighborhood cleanup from: 9 A.M. to 1 P.M.

Communities are encouraged to pick a location that needs a special cleanup and call 311 to register. Participating communities are asked to bag and stack debris at a designated collection location so that it can be picked up on Monday, October 28. Participants should provide the debris pickup location when they register at 311. Free garbage bags are available to registered communities at the following DPW locations: 111 Kane Street, Baltimore, MD 21224 (October 21 to 25, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and 2840 Sisson Street, Baltimore, MD 21211 (October 21 to 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

For communities who need additional tools for their cleanup, the Baltimore Community ToolBank is a nonprofit organization that loans tools and equipment to community groups and gardens, neighborhood associations, and other charitable organizations for just three cents on the dollar per week. They have everything your group might need—shovels, rakes, trash cans, buckets and much more. Whether you are joining the Mayor’s Fall Cleanup or working to create a better Baltimore year-round, your group can borrow $1,000 worth of tools for just $30. Membership is free and they are reserving tools now for fall projects, so make sure to get tools lined up for your upcoming events. Learn more about the ToolBank or register to borrow tools online at http://www.baltimore.toolbank.org.

Communities who have not registered need to line up volunteers and register now. CLEAN UP BALTIMORE!
